Brake shoes are linings on the inside of the brake drum. During braking, the lining pushes up and against the inside of the brake drum. This action creating friction, and stops the vehicle. Most modern vehicles uses disc rotor brakes as their primary way of braking. Brake shoes are generally seen in todays automobile's rear brake system.
